然而,多倫多的許多行人卻感到令人沮喪,因為選擇在人行道上使用這些車輛送外賣而不是指定單車道的人數變多了。
儘管並非所有違法者都是外賣員,但如果一名市議員提出的議案獲得通過,那麼使用這類車輛送外賣可能必須要先獲得牌照。
市議員Diane Saxe代表University-Rosedale第11選區,正在動員一項動議,要求市議會通過這些機動車的商業騎手必須擁有牌照等標識,以便警察和執法官員能夠更好地追蹤那些違反規則的人。
“少數(機動)送貨員公然無視交通規則,高速行駛,在人行道上騎行,給行人和其他脆弱的道路使用者帶來了安全隱患,”動議寫道。
該提案包括電動滑板車、電動單車,或基本上任何有馬達並允許快遞員快速行駛的車輛。
Saxe的動議將在本月晚些時候送交基礎設施和環境委員會,但許多倡導者已經開始批評該提案。

多倫多單車協會的代理聯合執行董事Alison Stewart在接受CBC採訪時提到了這項動議,並認為發放許可證並不一定能糾正人們的行為。

然而,Saxe的動議堅持認為,帶有清晰的標識可能會導致危險行為的減少。
「針對這類外賣員執行交通規則的嘗試並沒有有效阻止這種行為,部分原因是外賣員和他們的車輛都沒有清晰的標識。因此,很難識別和定位嫌疑人。」
「這創造了一種有罪不罰的文化,進一步鼓勵了非法和危險的行為。」
