據觀察者網報道，2017年維密秀確定將於中國上海舉行，日前超模吉吉·哈迪德（Gigi Hadid）則因「涉嫌辱華」引髮網友不滿，網友紛紛舉報拒絕其參加上海大秀。9月1日晚間，吉吉在微博道歉，並稱「我對於中國人民懷有極大的尊重與愛」。

此前，吉吉因為在與朋友聚會中學「眯眯眼」，被網友怒批「種族歧視」，並被挖出眾多此前涉嫌種族歧視的行為。其男友澤恩-馬利克（Zayn Malik）隨後發文維護女友，也被指責「無知」。不少中國網友紛紛舉報拒絕其參加上海大秀。
9月1日晚間，吉吉在微博道歉，表示「絕非想要冒犯任何人」、「真摯地向那些因我的言行而受到傷害或者失望的人道歉」，並且「對於中國人民懷有極大的尊重與愛」，「我希望我能跟你們見面，讓你們了解一個真實的我。」
不過，這一道歉聲明並沒有發佈在她的Instagram和Twitter上。

傷害別人令我感到心疼，我想要讓你們知道我絕非想要冒犯任何人。我真摯地向那些因我的言行而受到傷害或者失望的人道歉。我對於中國人民懷有極大的尊重與愛，我珍惜過往曾經到訪中國的點點滴滴。 我已學到我應謹言慎行，避免可能引起誤會的行為發生。我希望你們能夠接受我真摯的道歉。我希望我能跟你們見面，讓你們了解一個真實的我。我絕不容忍傷害別人的行為，我想要讓所有人都知道，無論任何文化與背景，我都絕對歡迎、尊重並熱愛着你們。
