董晗鵬在社交媒體上發表的聲明中表示：「在與我的家人、團隊和支持者交談後，我決定不參加這次選舉，以便讓加拿大自由黨有最好的機會組建政府，保護我們免受唐納德·特朗普帶來的威脅。 」
董於2023 年 3 月退出自由黨黨團，以獨立人士身份參選。
自由黨在提名公告中宣布，Maggie Chi 將代表該黨競選當河谷北區。Chi 此前曾於 2022 年競選安省自由黨士嘉堡北區選區提名。

不久前，加拿大自由黨告知我，他們將在當河谷北區推舉一位新的候選人參選。經過與家人、團隊及支持者的認真商討，我決定不參加這次聯邦選舉，以給予自由黨最大機會組建政府，並保護我們免受特朗普所帶來的威脅。
無法參與這場重要的選舉，我深感遺憾。眾所周知，約兩年前，我被迫離開自由黨黨團，以便回應環球新聞（Global News）對我作出的虛假指控、以證清白。我至今仍在通過法律途徑為自己抗爭。我衷心感謝所有為我仗義執言、努力回擊不公指控的人們。我也感激那些參與調查針對我指控的相關人士，包括瑪麗-喬塞·霍格法官（Justice Marie-Josée Hogue）。關於聯邦選舉過程和民主制度外國干預問題的公共調查最終報告指出，環球新聞對我的指控完全不屬實。

Statement
I was informed by the Liberal Party of Canada that they will have a new candidate running in Don Valley North. After speaking with my family, team, and supporters, I have decided not to participate in this election to give the LPC the best chance to form a government and protect us from the threats posed by Donald Trump.
I am disappointed not to be part of this important campaign. As many know, I had no choice but to leave the Liberal caucus about two years ago to try to clear my name in response to false accusations Global News published about me. I am continuing my fight to do that through the Court. I am grateful for the many people who have defended me and tried to address this injustice. I am also grateful for the many people who worked on investigating the accusations made against me, including Justice Marie-Josée Hogue. The final report on the Public Inquiry into Foreign Interference in Federal Electoral Processes and Democratic Institutions showed that Global News』 accusations about me were completely false.
Despite the positive reports and conclusions on these questions, my legal case continues. I must continue to seek justice from the Court in my lawsuit against Global News. I consider myself to be a living example of many of Justice Hogue』s warnings, including this one:
「Examples like these demonstrate why it would be entirely unfair to rely on untested intelligence to publicly label an individual parliamentarian a traitor. This would have a profound impact on the individual, one that could not be justified in light of the frailties of intelligence and the inability to give them a fair opportunity to defend themselves.」
It has been a privilege to serve the residents of DVN and a humbling experience to work with and learn from so many hardworking leaders, volunteers of community organizations and public institutions. Every time I read a thank-you comment or review left by my constituents for the top-quality services they received from my office, I am reminded how fortunate I have been for my wonderful team.
Lastly, I owe a tremendous debt of gratitude to my family, friends, colleagues and supporters, including all those I have never met, for sticking with me and embracing me with trust, encouragement and love.
